Escutcheon of the city of Antwerp
1936 - 1937
Diamond merchants Romi and Leopold Goldmuntz presented this coat of arms during the big Antwerp diamond exhibition in 1936-37. Despite the oppressive international atmosphere which preceded the Second World War, Antwerp maintained utter confidence in its leading role in the diamond trade. After the war Romi Goldmuntz played an important role in the speedy revival of the Antwerp diamond trade. Together with alderman Eekelers he coaxed refugee diamond merchants to return to Antwerp with their stocks of rough goods.
