Thick table stone

At the end of the 15th century, a technique was discovered to flatten the top of the octahedron, also known as the Point cut, resulting in a full table cut, the first step towards modern faceted shapes. This cut has 4 main facets on the pavilion together with a culet. The crown features four main facets and a table facet. These stones were usually placed on a background of black foil so that the stone gave a mirror effect rather than a real sparkle.
