Medal of the Fat Bullock

1850

Inscription on the reverse side in the rim 'Cité de commerce et d' industrie Anvers Concours de / 1850' in the middle '1er prix / Boeuf gras'. Obverse a prize-winning bull, reverse Antwerp castle and hands. In 1850 the butcher J. Crabeels won this medal for a bullock weighing 1,288 kg. The first cattle show, forerunner of the Fat Bullock, was held in the Vleeshuis (Butchers' Hall) in Antwerp on February 14th 1806. On that occasion the medal was ordered from Jan Baptist Verberckt I (1735-1819).
