Belt buckle

The belt buckle used to be as carefully chosen as a pair of earrings or a necklace. Designs followed the fashion of other jewels. Around 1900 floral motifs were very much in vogue. This buckle is made up of two sprays of mistletoe hooked together. The ‘kiss under the mistletoe’ gives this plant a positive connotation, but it also has a dark side: mistletoe grows on trees as a parasite.
