Plate

1500 - 1600

A 'teljoor' is a 'cutting plate', the forerunner of our table plates. They were round or rectangular and made of pewter, wood or earthenware. A slice of bread was placed on it and on top of that a piece of meat drenched in sauce. An ownership mark was stamped on the upper surface of the trencher.
