The silver case, marked with the Belgian town mark for small works from the period 1832-1869 and an as yet unidentified master and essay mark, contains a miniature with a portrait of a young woman. The young woman, who was depicted only up to the neck, has a typical 19th century hairstyle and wears a pair of gold earrings with a blue or green gemstone, presumably emerald. The miniature may date from the 1830's.
