The three medallions on the body of the jug feature a bust in a scrollwork decoration. The pewter lid has a two-lug hinge.

Stoneware is impermeable and so absorbs alsmost no liquid, it is easy to clean and does not take on the taste of its contents. Hence, the widespread use of this sort of pottery from the fourteenth into the fifteenth centuries.
