Karoline Healy is a researcher and jewellery designer from London. As a consultant, she advises designers and companies on the use of sustainable materials. In 2019, she founded the label H₂ERǴ, through which she designs and creates jewellery from sustainable precious metals. But that's not all: Karoline is working on a unique research project called Future Metals.

Future Metals explores the possibilities of bio-mining and biotechnologies to extract precious metals from waste. Imagine plant species that absorb metals through their roots, forming the basis for sustainable jewellery. Together with biologists and biotech start-ups like 'Phyona' in the UK, Karoline uses native plants to extract and reuse metals from contaminated soils. Additionally, she collaborates with 'Econik' in France, who have developed a revolutionary method to extract metals using sunlight.

During this DIVA talk, Karoline Healy will share her experiences and insights on using biotechnologies to 'mine' precious metals. Discover how these regenerative bio-metals provide a new source of materials for jewellery and how these innovations contribute to a more sustainable future.
