Paul Van Hoeydonck is a contemporary artist. He was born in Antwerp in 1925. In 1941 he took an evening course at the Academy of Antwerp and later on he started working in the studio of Jos Hendrickx. He obtained a degree in art history from the Art History Institute in Antwerp and took history courses at the institute for art history and archeology in Brussels. From 1955 on he was an active member of various artists' groups and later on in the decade, he exhibited both in group and solo. He enjoyed great success both nationally and internationally. In 1971, his "Fallen Astronaut" statuette was placed on the moon. In 2014, Van Hoeydonck was promoted to knight in the Order of Leopold, and in 2022 he received an honorary doctorate for general merits at the University of Antwerp.
