Wolfers, Philippe

Brussels goldsmith and silversmith and jewellery designer. Philippe Wolfers (1858-1929), son of Louis Wolfers (1820-1892) married in 1885 Sophie Wildstadter and in that same year he bought himself into his father's company. In 1897 the company Louis Wolfers père et fils was transformed into Wolfers Frères. Together with his brothers, Max and Robert, he expanded the workshop. Philippe Wolfers, who received a training as a sculptor, is particularly known for his Art Nouveau creations, jewels as well as silverware. In 1925 he designed the Gioconda-ensemble in Art Deco for the international exhibition of decorative arts in Paris.
