Daum Frères

Daum is a cristallerie founded in 1878 by Jean Daum (1825 - 1885) in Nancy, France. He later involved his two sons Auguste Daum (1853 - 1909) and Antonin Daum (1864 - 1931) in the company. Daum Frères was one of the leading producers of Art Nouveau glass in France at the turn of the century. In 1900, the company was awarded a Grand Prix medal at the World's Fair. Over the years, the company developed innovative techniques and processes that set them apart. For example, Daum applied the pâte-de-verre technique and manufactured "jade glass. During World War I, the company manufactured only medical glass. After they reopened in 1918, they were unable to repeat the creative and economic boom of before. They produced Art Déco glassware in the 1920s that was on display at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris where they won awards. Daum still produces glassware and they still use the pâte-de-verre technique.
