van der Donck, Jacob Frans

Brussels silversmith. Born on the 23rd of January 1724 as the posthumous son of goldsmith Egidius van der Donck (+ 1723) and Johanna Clara Meersmans. He was the grandson of silversmith Hiëromymus van der Donck (+ 1713). In 1730 he served his apprenticeship with his stepfather, the silversmith Cornelius Roos. He became a master in 1751. That same year he married Barbara Bergé (° 1712), a niece of sculptor Jacob Bergé (1696-1756). From c. 1763 he worked for the court of governor-general Charles Alexander of Lorraine. Died on the 6th of May 1801. Father and teacher of silversmith Hubertus van der Donck.
