Courtin, Petrus Josephus

Petrus Josephus Courtin is a silversmith born in Mons as the son of Dominque Courtin and Marie Jeanne Amant. For two years, he was an apprentice of the silversmith V.J. Jamau whereafter he worked in the workshop for four years. He left Mons and went to Brussels where he was a student of Petrus Ivens (1702 - 1758) from 1748 until 1750. In 1750 he went to Paris for three years, and when he came back, he became a citizen of Leuven on June 12, 1753. Later that month, he was accepted as a master silversmith. From 1766 on he had a workshop on the Grote Markt in Leuven. On the 19th of March 1754, he married Maria Josepha Devienne in Leuven. He passed away on August 10, 1811.
