Hennekin, Josephus I

1643 - 1720/09/08

Son of David Hennekin (b. 1611) and Catharina Staels. Worked in Paris in 1667 as a companion and c. 1673-1674 probably still on behalf of Catharina Staels, his mother. Josephus married twice: in 1677 to Françoise Clay of de Cleyn and in 1682 to Maria Stappaerts. In 1676 he hired an apprentice and bequeathed his tools to his brother Jean Baptiste Hennekin. In 1697 he adapted his last will for understandable reasons and bequeathed the tools to his son Michiel Hennekin (°1683), who at that time was learning to draw and model from sculptor Joannes Claudius de Cock. But he eventually decided to become a priest. He was eventually succeeded by his son Joannes Josephus II Hennekin (1689-1758). (Source: Silver from Antwerp, 2006)
