Wine Bottle

1750 - 1800

Particularly interesting about this bottle is the deep, cone-shaped kick, which made it possible to adjust the internal capacity of the bottle during the blowing process and at a later stage to limit contact between the sediment and the wine. Nizet was an important family of Liège glassblowers in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The 'NIZET' glass seal might be a reference to the manufacturer of these bottles; this was certainly in widespread use in Germany. We also know of Spa water bottles dating from around 1810 bearing the name Nizet in relief in the glass. We cannot, however, rule out the possibility that the bottle originates from the Nizet wine business.
