Hat-pin

1900 - 1900

During the belle époque women’s hats took on large proportions. The problem was that they would blow off in windy weather. To avoid this, a hat pin was pinned through the hat and into the hair. From 1880 to the mid-twentieth century this accessory was very much in evidence in the streetscape. The top of the pin was sometimes beautifully decorated with a little jewel.
