Slipper chair

1830 - 1840

A 'chauffeuse'or 'slipper chair' has a low seat and a high back and was designed as a fireside chair. The original velvet upholstery consists of a diagonal motif and imitation Persian embroidery and pseudo-Arabian cartouches. What is interesting here is the spring system supported with iron rods. The term used for this style of this chair with neo-Gothic ogives is à la cathédrale. Originally the feet had casters.
