Platter bearing the coat of arms of Charles V

1520 - 1550

The punch form for the well was probably cut in 1519, to mark the coronation of Charles V. His coat of arms unites the heraldic arms of Castile, Leon, Austria, Burgundy, Sicily, Dalmatia and Granada. Two little shields and the initials 'M.M' and 'K.I.D' were engraved on the well. Hunted deer, a popular theme, are stamped on the wide border.
