Floor Clock

1740 - 1750

The clock face gives the hours, minutes, date and phases of the moon and is decorated in the corners with the allegorical figures of the seasons of the year. The three wooden finials on top are nineteenth century. Paulus Bramer (c.1696-1770) was a member of one of Amsterdam's greatest clock-making families. A very large number of his clocks have survived. In the eighteenth century - after 1735 - Amsterdam was a very important centre for the production of long-case clocks.
