Vase

1735 - 1795

Oval vase with base in cross section. A embossed mask on the two sides in a square cartouche. At the neck 4 large and at the high lid 4 smaller stylized mythical animal masks with loose, hanging rings. On top of the lid a lion of Fo or shih-tzu, a symbol of bravery, a worker. This vase was purely intended as a decorative object and showed the good taste and prosperity of the owner in addition to the artist's art skills. With the exception of the lion, the other decorative elements of the vase are inspired by bronze objects from the first millennia BC (source: Pierre Lunden legacy catalog). (translation)
