The birds were painted from prints by Jean Michel Seligmann Sammlung verschiedener ausländischer und seltener Vögel, Nuremberg, 1749-1776. Seligmann had based his work on prints by George Edward in the Natural History of Uncommon Birds. On the base and in the cover we find the following legends in gold, on a: 'La grive couronnée d'or - La tête rouge', on b: 'Le colibri - La moucherolle bleue', on c: 'Pigeôn à la couronne blanche - Le prunier de cacao'.
