Dressing-chest
1810
Around the year 1800 Jean Joseph Chapuis (1765-1864) designed a totally new type of dressing-table by placing an adjustable mirror on a chest with sunken, and so barely visible, yellow copper gliders on which the mirror could be pulled to the front of the table top. The little chest with drawer, which replaced the customary table, provided a base sturdy enough to take the weight of the movable mirror. The top drawer often took the form of a writing surface covered with felt.
