Catteau, Charles

1880/01/26 - 1966

The Frenchman Charles Catteau (1880-1966) worked first at the Sèvres and Nymphenburg factories near Munich before joining the Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière as decoration designer at the end of 1906. The municipal archive of La Louvière has the sketches, pierced drawings and notes of Ch. Catteau, which make it possible to roughly date the pieces. Catteau worked at Boch until he retired in 1946. This vase has a round stylized cloud motif in each of the vertical sections, which is clearly Japanese inspired but interpreted in a personal way.
