Chalice with paten and spoon

1936

The judgement seat is depicted on the foot of the chalice (God the Father, Christ and the Holy Ghost). The ivory knot is decorated with a Christogram and a fish, a swan eating a bunch of grapes and a pelican. The text: CARO MEA / VERE EST CIBVS / SANGVIS MEVS / VERE EST POTVS appears on the foot curvature. The text: SVSCIPE SANCTE PATER HANC IMMACVLATAM HOSTIAM runs around the paten. A little plate is attached under the base with the inscription: PARENTES, FRATER / ET SOROR QUI HOC DONO / MECUM UNUM FUERENT IN / OBLATIONE SINT UNUM MECUM IN FRUCTUM. A label stuck into the case confirms that E.H. O. Claeyssens was given this chalice with paten and little spoon as a present by his parents, brother and sister when he was ordained on April 19th 1936.
