Figure of Henry IV as a child
1824 - 1900
The future King Henry IV of France (1553-1610) is dressed as a page with Spanish ruff and sword. This figure is a replica of a figure by François Joseph Bosio (1769-1845), commissioned by Louis XVIII (1755-1824) and executed in bronze in 1823. The Louvre has a silver copy (inv. CC37) by Soyer and Odiot. Innumerable bronze and silver-plated bronze casts were made, most of them by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). Bosio is thought to have made the bronze figure for the dining-room of the Order of the Légion d'honneur, Henry IV being patron of this Order during the restoration (1814-1830) and the July monarchy.
