From 16 February to 19 April 2020, DIVA presents the 19th Silver Triennial. This three-yearly international competition for contemporary silver is organized by the German "Gesellschaft für Goldschmiedekunst" and the "Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus Hanau". 123 artists from 19 different countries took part in the 19th edition, including two entries from Belgium.

The Deutsche Goldschmiedehaus, founded in 1932, has been organizing the competition for contemporary silversmithing since 1965. What once started as a local exhibition about silver, grew into a renowned international competition. Belgium is represented in this edition by David Huycke (° 1967) and Helena Schepens (° 1981). Their work can also be found in the permanent collection presentation of DIVA. Check our visitor´s guide to learn more about the expo.

A silver world

Eight round dinner tables form the backdrop for the silver objects shown. The link with silverware is made in a playful way. DIVA challenges visitors to think about their own use of silver objects. Central to the scenography is craftsmanship and an appreciation for contemporary silver. Interior architects Leo Aerts and Philippe Swartenbroux are responsible for the scenography of the exhibition. Leo Aerts is also a designer himself and participated in the 12th Silver Triennial. His work is also included in the DIVA collection.
